Day 1: Welcome to India
You will be met by your Travel Director on arrival at New Delhi Airport and transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day relaxing after your flight or exploring the Indian Capital.
Day 2: Highlights of Vibrant Delhi
Take a cycle rickshaw ride through the old, narrow streets of Chandni Chowk bazaar, teeming with people. Continue onto the Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India and the largest architectural extravagance of Shah Jehan. Also visit Raj Ghat, the memorial site of Mahatma Gandhi. You will also visit two monuments from Delhi's past, Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar. Our drive takes us along the ceremonial avenue, Rajpath, past imposing India Gate and Parliament House.
Day 3: The Pink City of Jaipur
After breakfast, we travel to Jaipur. Known as the “Pink City”, Jaipur is the capital of the colourful state of Rajasthan. It has the distinction of being a well-planned city. As we drive through the old part of town, you will see life lived in the most extraordinary and unique way. Witness how the city blooms during the day in a kaleidoscope of colour and sounds.
Day 4: Cultural Wonders of Jaipur
This morning, ascend by jeep to the impressive Amber Fort from where the Hindu Rajput princes ruled over Jaipur. This afternoon, visit Jaipur city starting with City Palace Museum where you can see an imposing blend of traditional Rajasthani and Mughal Art. The museum is resplendent with its collection of robes of royal princes, carpets, an armoury of old weapons, miniature paintings portraying court scenes, battle scenes and processions. Also visit the awe-inspiring Jantar Mantar, an accurate observatory built in 1726AD. Included today is a photo visit to the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) - a five-storied wonder with a spectacular pyramidal facade and overhanging windows.
Day 5: Red City of Fatehpur Sikri & Highlights of Agra
After breakfast, travel to Agra. En-route, enjoy an excursion to Fatehpur Sikri. The imperial city of the Mughal dynasty between 1571 and 1584, Fatehpur Sikri was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar. Ponder the mysterious desertion of this capital city that was dramatically abandoned a few years after it was built. It was a veritable fairy tale city and its ‘ruins’ are still in a pristine condition. It is not hard to imagine what the court life must have been like in the days of its grandeur. Take a wander around the bustling chowks to sample Indian sweets and shop for marble goods, head to a rooftop bar to sip a cold one or opt to join our visit to the UNESCO listed Agra Fort. Another fine example of Mughal craftsmanship, the vibrantly red sandstone Fort dates back to 1565 and comes complete with fairy tale palaces, beautiful gardens and views of the Taj in the distance. This evening we visit a local market.
Day 6: Taj Mahal and Flight to Ananda Resort in the Himilayas
Today we start with an early morning visit to the lustrous Taj Mahal, a monument of love, built by an emperor in memory of his beloved queen. Marvel at the flawless architecture in the first rays of light. Afterwards, we return to New Delhi to board an afternoon flight for Dehradun. On arrival in Dehradun, we are transferred by road to the Ananda Resort in the Himalayas where you will be spending the next few days.
Nestled in the foothills of the majestic Himalayas, close to the spiritual town of Rishikesh, Ananda is India’s finest luxury destination spa. Dedicated to today’s traveller, who is looking for innovative ways to restore and rejuvenate, the spa focuses on India’s ancient sciences of Yoga and Ayurveda. The spa’s elegant rooms offer majestic views of the valley of Rishikesh and the holy river Ganges, while the old Vice regal Palace exudes the charm of a bygone royal era. During your stay, you may also want to participate in adventure activities such as river-rafting in the Ganges, trekking & visiting the Rajaji wildlife sanctuary.
